The premier store is M&S’s second largest store in the world which is being named as a sustainable learning store, BREEAM excellent rated and M&S’s most carbon efficient.
The landscape plan has ensured the Cheshire Oaks site is a more biodiverse site than prior to development, including a wider number of species of plant than in the original landscape. 228 new trees have been planted within a total of approximately 12,000 square metres of landscape planting.
A re-landscaped swale to complement the local sustainable urban drainage system with a robust monitoring and maintenance schedule was also introduced.
To support the architect’s design and M&S’s biodiverse ethos, GreenBlue Urban provided a number of products that ensured the success of the landscaping part of the project. The ArborGuy tree anchoring system was used for the large trees on the site together with the RootRain Urban irrigation system.
The new store has quickly become a main retail attraction within the Cheshire Oaks complex, pathing the way for many more retailers to embrace the same ethos for sustainability and environmental considerations.
